Born in Newmarket Q2-1914 [Newmarket 3b:842], son of Edward and Beatrice LEE (née SARGENT).

In 1911 the family were at 5 Fern Villas, Exning Road, Newmarket, father born Manchester, Mother and children all born in Newmarket; John [7], Ernest [5] and Rosie [6 months].
In the 1936 directory the family were at Southview Terrace, Newmarket. In the 1939 register they have not been identified.


A regular soldier who had served 8 years in India. It was the 2nd Battalion who were in India between the wars.
He was killed on the day after the capture of Brinkum, just south of Bremen.
The grave photograph was sent in to the Newmarket Journal by one of his comrades. It shows his temporary grave at Fahrenhorst(just south west of Bremen), before being moved about 100 Km east to Becklingen War Cemetery on 22nd August 1946.



James is buried in Becklingen War Cemetery, Germany Ref- 7. D.8.
and also commemorated on the Exning Road plaque, now kept in the Exning Road Working Mens Club,
